Step-by-step guide: Cleaning a Herb Grinder

  • Disassemble the Grinder: Take apart your herb grinder, separating the different components such as the top, bottom, and any additional chambers.
  • Remove Residue: Use a toothpick or a small pointed tool to gently remove any stuck herb residues or buildup from the grinder's teeth and crevices.
  • Soak in Isopropyl Alcohol: Place the disassembled grinder parts in a small container or bowl. Pour enough isopropyl alcohol over the parts to fully submerge them. Let the parts soak for at least 30 minutes to an hour. This will help dissolve and loosen any remaining residue.
  • Brush and Scrub: After soaking, use a small brush, like a toothbrush or a dedicated grinder cleaning brush, to scrub away loosened residue. Pay attention to the teeth, threads, and any hard-to-reach areas.
  • Detail with Q-tips: Dip Q-tips in isopropyl alcohol to clean the finer details and tight spots, such as the threads and corners.
  • Rinse with Warm Water: After scrubbing, rinse each part thoroughly under warm running water to remove any remaining alcohol and residue.
  • Dry Completely: Pat each part dry with paper towels or let them air dry completely. Ensure there is no residual moisture before reassembling the grinder.
  • Reassemble the Grinder: Put the cleaned parts back together, ensuring everything is properly aligned.
  • Optional: Season the Grinder: Some users prefer to "season" their grinder by grinding a small amount of herb through it after cleaning. This helps remove any lingering alcohol taste and ensures the grinder is ready for use.
  • Manage Used Isopropyl Alcohol Thoughtfully: After cleaning your grinder, you have two options for handling the used isopropyl alcohol. You can either store it in an airtight container for future use or, if opting to dispose of it, make sure to do so responsibly following local regulations.
